KERN Precision, Inc. has announced its new partnership with Merrifield Machinery Solutions of Pontiac, MI, and Grand Rapids, MI. Merrifield Machinery Solutions is a full-service CNC machine tool supplier and advisor to customers on sound capital investments, cost control and equipment optimization.
KERN manufactures 3- and 5-axis machining centers with repeat accuracy of <0.5 um and <0.3 um and a spindle runout of < 1 um. Designed for precision part manufacturers, mold and die, research and development, medical and micro-drilling applications, KERN machines provide precision on the workpiece below +/-5 um, (The KERN Pyramid Nano holds tolerances of +/- 1 um) and surface quality up to Ra < 0.05 um, according to the company.
"In tool and die manufacturing, KERN machines are capable of hard milling inserts and µ-exact electrodes for injection molds, sinter presses, forging tools, metal injection molding (MIM) dies and hot embossing tools," said a company spokesperson. Manufacturing of µ-exact electrodes from copper or graphite and workpieces in steel up to HRC 62 can be done in either 3- or simultaneous 5-axis configurations.
