Joe Gibbs Racing Technology Open House April 30th, in Huntersville, SC

Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) will open its shop to race fans from the metalworking community on Thursday, April 30th, where they can see how its NASCAR Sprint Cup race cars come together. During the event, visitors will be able to tour the JGR CNC Machine Shop where 22 Doosan CNC machine tools are in operation, including several Doosan horizontal machining centers (HMCs), vertical machining centers (VMCs) up to 5-axis and multitasking turning centers up to 9-axis.

In all, JGR machines over 2,000 different parts (150,000 total parts per year) on its Doosan CNC machine tools, which make up 90% of a finished race car. The JGR CNC machine shop operates two shifts a day, seven days a week, and enables the team to adjust critical parts before each race. Designing these critical parts is a staff of over 50 engineers. With NASCAR's rules evolving not only every year but often several times within a year, JGR is presented with a challenge to stay on top of the current rules to remain competitive.

Joe Gibbs Racing's newest Doosan CNC machine tool, a VC 630/5AX 5-axis VMC.

According to Brian Levy, one of JGR's Design Engineers, "These machines allow us to do whatever we want to do. When our race teams come back from the track and suggest they would like to try a new spindle geometry or parts that are a little bit different than what we are running right now, we can draw it up in 3D, download it to the machines and have that new part on the race cars before the next race."

Joe Gibbs Racing's Final Assembly Area for all four of its NASCAR Sprint Cup Teams, which includes #11 Denny Hamlin FedEx Camry, #18 Kyle Busch Crispy M&M Camry, #19 Carl Edwards Arris Camry and #20 Matt Kenseth Dollar General Camry.

For 2015, JGR will be adding a fourth NASCAR Sprint Cup team along with its three Xfinity Series teams. Veteran driver Carl Edwards will pilot the newly formed #19 Arris/Stanley Tool Camry, while Denny Hamlin remains behind the wheel of the #11 FedEx Camry, Kyle Busch drives the #18 M&M's Camry and Matt Kenseth drives the #20 Dollar General/DeWalt Camry. On the Xfinity side, JGR has added Mexican born Daniel Suarez to drive the #18 Arris Camry, while Kyle Busch remains as driver/co-owner for the #54 Monster Camry and Kenseth continues to drive the #20 Dollar General Camry.

Additional JGR technology partners participating in the April 30th Open House include Sandvik, 3M, BOSCH Plugs, BLUM Novotest, Carpenter Technology, Exact JobBoss, Doosan Portable Power, Freightliner, Lincoln Electric, MAC Tools, Mahr Federal, Mitsubishi EDM/Laser, MSI-Viking Gage, MSC Industrial Supply, National Air Traffic Controllers Assoc, Safety-Kleen, Schunk, Sherwin Williams Automotive Paints, Siemens, Stratasys, Telesis and Yamaha Generators.

Joe Gibbs Racing is located at 13415 Reese Blvd. W, Huntersville, NC, 28078, just outside of Charlotte. The Technology Open House runs from 9 AM to 3 PM, Thursday, April 30th. For admittance, contact David Barber of Doosan Infracore America at dbarber@doosan.com.
