Axis High Precision Tools with Superfinishing Technology
November 1, 2026
Monaghan Tooling Group presents Axis high precision micro tools with proprietary Micro Machining Process (MMP) superfinishing technology that enhances tool performance, increasing tool life by up to 70%.
"Axis is the only manufacturer to apply MMP both before and after coating," said a company spokesperson. "This smooths and rounds tool edges by a highly controlled 2 to 5 microns and eliminates grinding-induced sawtooth edges."
Complementing MMP edge preparation, Axis micro tools integrate High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering (HiPIMS) coating technology. This advanced PVD coating combines the strong adhesion of traditional ARC methods with the ultra-smooth surface finishing of sputtering. When combined with MMP, this hybrid process maximizes coating adhesion and delivers a mirror-like finish that prevents chip welding and reduces heat generation, the company reported. Smoother edges mean less friction and heat, while mirror-like flutes provide improved chip evacuation. All processes are performed in-house, allowing for quality and consistency, ensuring predictable batch to batch machining. Axis micro tools are suited for machining titanium, cobalt-chrome, and high-temperature alloys commonly used in medial and aerospace applications.
Shank sizes of 3.00 mm, 4.00 mm, and 6.00 mm are available, with diameters from 0.30 mm to 3.00 mm, coupled with unique geometries and finishes and coatings.
