Fiber Discs Improve Productivity
November 1, 2026
The new Norton RazorStar FS1190 Fiber Disc is engineered specifically for carbon steel applications, offering fast, aggressive material removal for welding, metal fabrication, MRO, construction, and other demanding grinding applications.
"The discs are designed with precisely shaped cutting edges that slice through metal more efficiently, unlike conventional abrasive grains that tend to plow through material," said a company spokesperson. "Featuring a breakthrough engineered shaped ceramic grain technology, the discs' cutting action reduces friction and heat generation while requiring less force from the operator."
Advanced engineered grain geometry also helps improve grain retention. Individual abrasive particles remain securely anchored to the backing for longer periods, minimizing the edge shedding commonly associated with heavy-pressure grinding, the company reported.
Another advantage is the controlled micro-fracturing of the ceramic grain. As the abrasive wears, microscopic fractures expose fresh razor-sharp cutting edges rather than allowing the grain to become rounded and dull. This self-renewing action is designed to help maintain a more consistent cut rate throughout the life of the disc, providing operators with predictable performance from start to finish.
Norton RazorStar FS1190 Fiber Discs are custom-tailored for cool-cutting, long-lasting performance.
