Flex Machine Tools Acquires TARUS

Flex Machine Tools, a Wapakoneta, OH-based manufacturer of machine tool solutions worldwide for metal fabricators, operations, and more, has acquired TARUS, a 57-year-old U.S. machine tool manufacturer based in Sterling Heights, MI.

"TARUS is one of the few remaining U.S. manufacturers that still designs and produces exceptionally large CNC machine tools," said a spokesperson. "The company serves customers in the automotive, aerospace, defense, heavy industry, energy, and mold and die industries, and is the world leader in clay model machine solutions for automobile design studios."

The acquisition expands Flex Machine Tools' manufacturing capacity, while adding decades of TARUS' engineering expertise, large CNC machine building capabilities, and added TARUS resources to accelerate its growth. TARUS will continue operating under its own name from its Sterling Heights manufacturing facility in metropolitan Detroit.

According to Don Kemper, President of Flex Machine Tools and TARUS, the fit between the two companies made sense from the start: "TARUS has engineering talent and manufacturing capability. Demand for large, precision-machined components is growing faster than we can produce them today, and this acquisition helps us close that gap. It gives us greater control over quality, cost, and delivery while making us more vertically integrated, resilient, and competitive. It is also an investment that positions TARUS for long-term growth."

Flex CEO Nick Kennedy added: "The acquisition allows us to manufacture more of what we build here at home, using American-made machines, while strengthening our business and American manufacturing."

Doug Greig, Vice President of Sales at TARUS and former co-owner, said: "We have spent years building relationships with our customers. We wanted to find a company like Flex Machine Tools that understood the importance of those relationships and that would continue supporting our customers. TARUS has always been about the people, the engineering, and the work we do here. Flex Machine Tools understands what makes our company unique, and I am confident they will continue building on what we have created.
