FNL-220LSY Series features a 60°, compound Y-axis, slant bed design for accuracy and rigidity during high-speed machining.
In modern manufacturing, efficiency relies on doing more with less floor space, fewer set-ups, and reduced cycle times.
Addressing the strict demands of high-volume precision industries like aerospace, automotive, and medical component manufacturing, FOCUSCNC by Chevalier has introduced the FNL-220LSY.
Engineered as a highly adaptable, multi-axis, and multi-functional turning and milling center, the FNL-220LSY is built to comfortably execute complex first and second operations on a single machine, eliminating the production bottlenecks caused by transferring parts across multiple stations.
At the heart of the FNL-220LSY's heavy-duty performance is its rigid machine construction. The lathe features a stable, one-piece Meehanite cast iron base engineered using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to maximize structural stiffness. Utilizing a 30° true slant bed design paired with Rexroth roller-type linear guideways, the machine provides 30% stronger rigidity than standard linear ball guideways, according to the company. This stable platform offers low friction, minimizes stick-slip issues, and dampens vibrations to improve surface finishes and cutting accuracy during continuous, high-speed load operations.
The FNL 220LSY's Y-axis travel range is ±55 mm (±2.2") from the centerline, facilitating expansive off-center milling, drilling, and tapping capabilities. It comes standard in the U.S. market with a fast-indexing 16-station BMT45 servo turret. Every station accommodates high-torque live tooling operating up to 6,000 RPM, featuring a heavy-duty Hirth coupling for form-locking, repeatable connections.
To maximize throughput and help ensure parts are finished entirely within the machine envelope, FNL-220LSY features a synchronized main spindle and sub-spindle system. The main belt-type spindle is powered by a 20 HP (15 kW) AC FANUC servo spindle motor delivering up to 4,500 RPM with an 8" chuck capability. The sub-spindle utilizes a high-torque 10 HP (7.5 kW) FANUC servo motor. Both spindles incorporate full C-axis positioning down to a 0.001" resolution. Programmed synchronization allows seamless part transfers between spindles at any rotation speed, minimizing idle time and driving continuous productivity.
Furthermore, the FNL-220LSY is IoT-ready via Chevalier's proprietary iMachine Communications System (IMCS). This remote monitoring platform offers 24/7 data collection, alarm history, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) tracking to mitigate downtime.
