New Options for Probing, Wire EDM and Additive/Hybrid Machining
February 1, 2021
Newly released GibbsCAM 14 introduces capabilities for manufacturing technologies including Probing, Wire EDM and Additive/Hybrid machining, along with new interface and workflow features that improve the speed and efficiency of everyday programming tasks. The GibbsCAM 14 release continues to focus on simplifying complex machine programming.
Highlights of this release include:
- Probing Option: Enables users to graphically complete the entire manufacturing cycle within the GibbsCAM programming interface. In-process probing enables users to take measurements, inspect features and confirm the accuracy of a part without taking it off the machine, eliminating costly and time-consuming machine downtime and part scrapping that are common with manual set-ups and inspection.
- Wire EDM Option: This new option is a comprehensive solution for all major wire EDM machines. "With a straightforward, easy-to-use interface, it provides fast and efficient programming strategies and also gives users complete control to program parts their way," said a company spokesperson. The packaging includes comprehensive feature recognition, solids machining capabilities, toolpath simulation and post-processors for all major wire EDM machines.
- Additive/Hybrid Machining: GibbsCAM 14 supports a new class of multitasking machines that use additive technology, including hybrid machines that are capable of both additive and subtractive operations. Inside the existing, intuitive GibbsCAM interface, new additive processes add material to existing stock. Once material has been deposited, traditional subtractive machining processes are available to rough and finish the new material.
- Multi-Task Machining: New support U-axis turning, which allows users to program turning operations on a mill that would be difficult to do on a lathe, eliminate multiple part set-ups on different machines. GibbsCAM 14 also supports swappable heads, graphically programming the detaching, parking and re-attaching of entire heads, making it possible to program multiple head set-ups in one program.
- Interface and Workflow Improvements: Many interface improvements have been added to reduce programming time and increase program efficiency. New customization options allow users to build a programming environment that personalized to them and the types of parts they program.
