The BIMO-FSC fiber laser cutting head from Nukon is designed to allow for flexible cutting of different sheet thicknesses while its rapid focus movement on the work piece allows for efficient and productive flat sheet cutting. Applications include flat sheet cutting with high-brightness fiber, disc or diode lasers, as well as integration into 2D cutting machines.

"Productivity is key for flat sheet cutting machine operators," said a company spokesperson. "The BIMO-FSC meets this need with its ability to position and focus the diameter automatically via the CNC. This allows for cutting of different sheet thicknesses without any manual intervention. In combination with the BIMO-FSC's rapid focus movement on the work piece, efficient cutting and maximum productivity are possible.

"Cut quality is of particular importance. A determining factor of the cut quality is the optical design. The design of the BIMO-FSC allows for a reduction of the laser power induced shift as well as for the diffraction limited imaging quality being the condition for best cut quality."

The modular design enables easy integration into dynamically moving flat sheet cutting machines and is standard on all Nukon Fiber Laser cutting machines. For optimized integration, the Control Interface Cutting (CIC) module controls the motorized collimation, the capacitive height sensing and the cover slide monitoring and communicates via EtherCAT. To reduce the mechanical strain on the laser light cable system, the collimation module can be installed at a 90° angle. Consequently, the BIMO-FSC is fitted to all Nukon Fiber Laser cutting machines.

To increase the lifetime of the optical components, the BIMO-FSC features a sealed optical system, optional cover slide in front of the collimation, cover slide under the focusing lens with extended cover and optional cover slide monitoring.

The BIMO-FSC allows processing speeds of up to 20 m/min and acceleration up to 6 g. It utilizes XY alignment for centering the focus to the nozzle tip.

The Nukon BIMO-FSC fiber laser cutting head is available on all Nukon Fiber laser cutting machines from i-Fab, an importer and distributor of industrial metalworking machinery to the North American manufacturing industry.
