Milling/Tapping Center with Small Footprint

Despite its small footprint the compact MILLTAP 700 machining center offers users a spaciously dimensioned work area.

The compact MILLTAP 700 machining center from the ECOLINE family is the first high-tech machine that DMG and MORI have developed together from scratch. The MILLTAP 700 machining center is equipped with a fast 15-pocket tool changer (25 pockets optional) that can achieve chip-to-chip times of <1.5 seconds and tool changeover times of 0.9 seconds. The optionally available 5-axis version MILLTAP 700 is designed with swivel rotary table (A- and C-axes) that is engineered for optimum rigidity during machining. "Keeping the rotation point close to the center of the workpiece allows for an optimum machining area and limits geometric errors to a minimum," said a company spokesperson. The direct drive, water-cooled A- and C-axes and the direct measuring system all work together to provide maximum positioning accuracy. The machine comes with Operate 4.5 on the SIEMENS 840D solutionline control.

The work area measures 27.6 inches in the X-axis and 16.5 inches in the Y-axis (with a Z-path of 15.0 inches) designed with ergonomic access to the work area. The stable working table and widely spaced linear guides allow a table loading capacity of up to 881.8 lbs. and 220.5 lbs. in the 5-axis version.

The MILLTAP 700 comes with a 10,000 RPM spindle or an optional 10,000 RPM high-torque spindle, 18,000 RPM spindle or 24,000 RPM high-speed-spindle that expand the range of materials that can be machined.

The high-torque spindle offer users a torque of 57.5 ft./lbs. and 31.7 ft./lbs. in continuous operation thus closing the gap to vertical machining centers. The optional high-torque spindle and the optional BIG plus tool holder can increase milling performance and process rigidity.

The rigidity of the machine is also boosted by the C-frame design and the use of robust cast parts.

DMG MORI has also put together a Medical Package specifically for the medical industry: this includes an 18,000 RPM spindle with grease lubrication that is ideally suited for the special machining requirements of this industry. Grease lubricated linear guides also contribute to keeping the work area free of oil.

Integrating an optional automation solution in the MILLTAP 700 is a possible expansion of the product portfolio.
