Sapphire Lenses, Windows for Demanding Environments

Meller Optics, Inc. has introduced custom fabricated sapphire optics for use as sight windows in high temperature furnaces, cryogenic processes, fluid, powder and solids processing and as sensor protection in demanding environments.

Meller Sapphire Optics can be fabricated in various shapes, sizes and opening styles that can incorporate stepped edges and elliptical edge shaping, holes, slots and wedges for mounting, plus A/R coatings. Suited for extremely demanding environments, they can withstand UHV to 10,000 PSI and cryogenic to 1,000 °C, depending upon configuration.

Impervious to fast moving fluids, particles and most chemicals including fluorine to 300 °C, Meller Sapphire Optics feature Mohs 9 hardness, which is second only to diamond. Surface finishes can range from 60-40 to 40-20 scratch-dig, flatness can be held to 0.5 fringes of HeNe and parallelism from 20 to 2 arc/secs.
