LIFT, the Department of Defense-supported national advanced materials manufacturing innovation institute, announced FloridaMakes has joined as a member of the institute. This is in support of the advanced manufacturing industrial base in the state of Florida to accelerate the development of technology and talent for the future of manufacturing.
FloridaMakes is the official representative of the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) National Network and National Institutes of Science and Technology (NIST) in the state of Florida, with a focus on helping small- and medium-sized manufacturers generate business results and thrive in today's technology-driven economy.
LIFT, celebrating its 10th year as a Department of Defense national manufacturing innovation institute, is a Detroit-based nonprofit public-private partnership that is focused on "Driving American Advanced Manufacturing Into the Future" by connecting advanced materials, manufacturing processes, systems engineering and talent development in support of U.S. national economy and national security. The institute is also continuing to develop its national mandate recently opening a facility in Puerto Rico while exploring other expansion opportunities across the country, including in Florida.
This partnership will allow both organizations to connect their member bases of manufacturers to accelerate the development and commercialization of new and innovative technologies on behalf of the Department of Defense and the broader Florida manufacturing base.
"As a NIST MEP, our mission is aligned with that of LIFT, as we work every day to support the manufacturers across the state of Florida," said Kevin Carr, CEO, FloridaMakes. "By working together and bringing LIFT expertise in technology and talent development, combined with our work in business practices like supply chain integration and technology transfer, we can support Florida's manufacturers throughout their development cycles."
"Connecting with organizations like FloridaMakes will have a multiplier effect on the work that we both do for manufacturers," said Nigel Francis, CEO and Executive Director, LIFT. "By joining our ecosystems together, we will help manufacturers across Florida learn from each other, find ways to innovate and, more importantly, get these new technologies into the market more quickly."
