Creative Solution Earns Arcadia Metalcraft Production Contract
August 1, 2019
Arcadia Metalcraft, a provider of lighter die cast and precision-machined components across multiple alloys for automotive and other industries, has announced a new purchase order for an aluminum casting component used in an automotive fluid transfer pump.
Production for up to 1.3 million casting components will begin in the fall of 2019. Arcadia Metalcraft's new solution process is designed to achieve higher quality, faster cycle time and lower tooling costs for a total savings of $0.05 per part.
By analyzing specific customer performance requirements and manufacturability of the casting component, Arcadia Metalcraft identified key areas of improvement. As a result, the die cast experts adjusted mold redundancies, secondary operations and die size to create a more efficient solution.
"Our design and production teams improved material flow and process tolerances by decreasing the number of cavities in the mold to improve the fill characteristics, which reduced scrap and increased mold output," said Graham Furse, Vice Chairman, Arcadia Metalcraft. "In the end, we developed a much more balanced and stable shot on a smaller and faster die cast machine for a smoother, faster process. The creativity behind this solution is a true testament to the value our teams bring customers."
