IMPCO Celebrates 80th Anniversary
January 1, 2018
IMPCO, a machine tool builder, recently celebrated its 80th anniversary at its Lansing, MI, manufacturing facility.
The company, which employs more than 100, designs and builds special automated machines that polish camshaft, crankshaft and other precision load bearing journals for engine manufacturers worldwide. "The IMPCO microfinishing process helps its customers, including major automotive OEMs, by providing smoother operating, longer lasting and more efficient engines and transmissions," said a company spokesperson.
"Today we are positioned at the forefront of microfinishing technology," said Mark Hendel, IMPCO Global Sales Director. "This all started 50 years ago when IMPCO designed, built and delivered the world's first automated microfinishing machine in response to a request from Chrysler Corporation for polishing its new V-8 engine crankshaft."
"Our strong and broad customer base has been the foundation for building what is today a very dynamic, flexible and efficient company," said Pat Cebelak, IMPCO President. "Having been first when it comes to microfinishing technology development, the company has shown with the release of new process patents and additional machine innovations in recent months that it is prepared the next 80 years."
The IMPCO microfinishing process consistently optimizes each of the characteristics that affect part function - geometry (shape), size and surface finish - at production rates to the manufacturer's specifications. The process controls these characteristics to microns.
