Choosing a career path after high school can be a challenging task for young people. Many do not realize the numerous career opportunities available to them in manufacturing. Lone Star College is working to change that. With the manufacturing industry heading for a possible skills gap, Lone Star Career and Technical Education Centers bring awareness of manufacturing careers to students and help them realize their options. Whether it is training, retraining, customized or traditional programming, Lone Star Community College provides the necessary resources to guide students to meet their short- and long-term goals. In these programs, students learn the concentrated, workforce-specific skills they need to advance their career in Texas' growing industries.
Sandvik Coromant recently presented a $5,000 Tooling Certificate to Tom Woodard, Associate Professor of Lone Star's Machining Technology department. "Globally recognized, Lone Star College's Applied Technology system is a premier community college for student success, innovation and partnerships," said a spokesperson.
According to Tom Woodward, "Sandvik Coromant's help means a lot to our program. With their support, we can show today's young people the wide range of jobs and careers available in manufacturing. Our Applied Technology department helps our students learn new skills or update their current skills and the hands-on learning they receive here helps students get into the workforce."
Dave Conger, Sr. Regional Manager at Sandvik Coromant is also pleased with the relationship. "We are proud to collaborate with Lone Star College to offer industry-based educational resources," said Conger. "Supporting programs like these are key to sustaining manufacturing jobs here in the U.S. for decades to come."
