Speed Edition Sinker EDM

GF AgieCharmilles offers its FORM 300 Sp (speed edition) sinker EDM. According to the company, the machine is capable of fast cutting speeds and has features designed to reduce programming time, automate operations, allow for machine connectivity and provide improved surface finishes.

"GF AgieCharmilles' IQ generator technology on the FORM 300 Sp is designed to optimize spark shape and virtually eliminate electrode wear to reduce graphite electrode material costs while also generating surface finishes of Ra 0.4 micron and better on a variety of materials, including Inconel and titanium," said a company spokesperson. "With Pilot EXPERT, the machine performs at high efficiency levels to automatically increase cutting speeds and production throughput."

The FORM 300 Sp's design features an oversized cast iron C frame to help maintain precise electrode/workpiece gaps and provide mechanical stability and precision. It also incorporates a system that provides thermal stability.

Linear glass scales help eliminate positioning errors in the XYZ axes caused by backlash expansion and ballscrew wear, so there is no need for regular maintenance or calibration, according to the company. Additionally, the machine features Renishaw in-process probing capability for workpiece positioning and measuring.

With axis travels of 23.6" x 15.8" x 17.7" (XYZ), the FORM 300 Sp accommodates workpieces up to 47.2" wide, 33.5" long and 15.8" high. Machine axes rapid traverse at speeds of 2.36" per second and position at accuracies within 0.00002".

The FORM 300 Sp features GF AgieCharmilles' AC Form HMI that centers on user friendliness and intuitiveness to shorten the learning curve for beginner EDM operators, according to the company.

The FORM 300 Sp comes standard with a FANUC 31iB CNC powered with MTConnect protocol functionality. As part of the machine's control and specifically for lights-out unattended production, GF AgieCharmilles offers its e-Connect, e-Control and e-Supervision functions for the FORM 300 Sp. While the machine works unmanned, these functions permit remote machine monitoring and control, along with real-time remote notifications that can be sent in the form of screen messages or as emails or SMS.

Also for unattended continuous machine operation, GF AgieCharmilles offers a full range of automation solutions. These include 5 and 6-position linear tool changers, 4 to 160-electrode rotary tool changers and external robots.
