Robot Features Automated Milling Capability

Highlighting material removal, KUKA Robotics recently demonstrated automated milling from Robotics Solutions, Inc. The robotic milling application featured a KR QUANTEC nano robot using KUKA.CNC software processing an aluminum cast part.

Robotic Solutions specializes in custom robot systems, and its turn-key solution offers users full CNC-type operations including automated tool changers, tool presetters, hotwire harps, probes, 3D scanners, unlimited file size capabilities and more. The company's systems are available in sizes ranging from small to large to fit a shop's specific robotic needs.

With a load capacity up to 300 kg and maximum reach of 3,904 mm, KR QUANTEC robots feature streamlined contours and small footprints as well as the ability to work in varying ambient conditions. All of which offers flexibility in operation and cell and system planning.

With the KUKA.CNC software interface that links a CNC and robot directly to each other, KUKA robots perform machining tasks like machine tools and can be programmed like them as well in G-code. Users create programs using a CAD/CAM process chain and, after simulation, execute them on the robot without having to compile them into the robot language.

The KUKA.CNC user interface incorporates typical operator control elements of a CNC controller, enabling machine operators with CNC machine tool experience to start operating the CNC robot quickly and easily. The CNC control now makes it possible to process even large programs consisting of a large number of program blocks.

Programs with up to one million path points have been successfully processed. The short distances between the individual CNC path points, together with advance path planning with a range of 150 path points, result in increased path accuracy and continuous-path performance of a KUKA.CNC-operated robot.

All KUKA automation solutions are backed by the company's expert service and support for training, complete system engineering and simulation, readily available spare parts, robot refurbishment and more, all of which are easily accessible through the my.KUKA.com site.
