VMC Meets Modern Manufacturing Requirements

Hyundai WIA has launched the KF5 VMC. This new and improved machine offers advancements over its predecessor, the KF5600II, with enhanced rigidity, greater user convenience and gains in quality and speed. The KF5 is engineered to meet the evolving needs of modern manufacturing with six distinct spindle line-ups.

The BT40 spindle lineup consists of standard 8,000 RPM, high-torque 8,000 RPM, 12,000 RPM, 15,000 RPM and built-in 20,000 RPM spindles.

The BT50 spindle offers enhanced performance in heavy cutting applications due to its high-torque 8,000 RPM configuration.

Hyundai WIA aims to address a wide range of customer needs by offering a diverse selection of spindle options.

"In contrast to competing models that use two-row bearings, the new KF5 is equipped with a Z-axis ball screw supported by four rows of bearings," said a company spokesperson. "The KF5 features enhanced rigidity through its wider column design. While competitors often increase rigidity by adding blocks to elevate the column, the KF5 achieves superior rigidity with its integrated, high-column construction."

The KF5 is designed to lower the height of the table by 50 mm (2") from the existing 950 mm (37.4") to 900 mm (35.4"), allowing workpieces to be easily installed.

KF5's magazine rotates at a low speed while the machine is processing, allowing the next tool to be at the staging position for faster tool change time.

Chip-to-chip time has been reduced from 3.2 seconds to 3.0 seconds, resulting in improved productivity.

The LM guide and ball screw of KF5 utilize grease packs for lubrication. While the existing oil and air lubrication method required oil to be replenished once every two to three days, the new grease lubrication method requires the grease to be replaced only once every two to six months.

The 20,000 RPM built-in spindle employs a grease supply lubrication method, making it the first of its kind in Korea to do so, the company reported.

"Unlike the existing oil lubrication method, which produces significant oil vapor during processing, the grease supply method eliminates oil vapor, resulting in a cleaner factory environment," said the spokesperson.

The KF5 is equipped with FANUC's latest controller, 0iF-PLUS, as standard. KF5's 0iF-PLUS supports SMART GUIDE i, which allows operators to write programs interactively through a large, 15" touchscreen.
