New Punch/Laser Combination Technology

Amada's new ACIES series of punch/laser combination machines is designed to provide enhanced productivity and scratch-free processing of complex sheet metal parts. This series features advanced automation and tool change options intended to meet a variety of production needs. According to the company, the ACIES series offers fast hit rates, stable processing, versatile forming and the unlimited shape cutting flexibility of a laser.

A feature of Amada's punch and laser combination is the ability to interface with an external tool changer. This unit, equipped with a 179 or 300 tool rack capacity, transfers tools to a "buffer turret" for rapid insertion into the ZR turret and automatically replaces tools with a back-up tool when preset hit-counts are reached. "Automated tool changes are the ideal solution for complex components, frequently changing job specifications and small production runs," said a company spokesperson. "Combined with extremely versatile laser cutting capabilities, it is now uncommon to be confronted with production tasks that demand time-consuming machine tooling operations. To permit the efficient management of extensive tool configurations Amada has developed its Tool ID system which always 'knows' the status of all the tools in terms of size, shape, angle and stroke rate - thereby eliminating errors during setup.

According to the company, the ACIES series features the following:

  • An ECO-friendly power-saving drive system
  • Flexible position of a free-standing control unit
  • Maintenance-free servo electric drive
  • AMNC/PC touch-screen control
  • Extensive cut condition database
  • No die setting required
  • Quick-change lens and nozzle system
  • Tool ID system (with QR codes) tracks hits, sharpening amount and life span
  • ZR turret with lower turret positioned beneath brush table for scratch-free processing
  • Selected die rises up through brush table to correct height automatically
  • Shimming of dies is not required
  • High-speed punching and marking
  • Increased form processing speeds
  • Independent laser head axis
  • Multiple Purpose Turret (MPT) with tapping tool function
  • Four built-in tapping stations - standard and metric sizes supported
  • Air-blow oil mist tool lubrication system
  • Buffer turret - tool buffer turret options
  • Vacuum system eliminates slug pull on all stations
  • FANUC 4000i-C resonator reduces power consumption by up to 40% during rapid stand-by mode.
