Flexible Machine Shop Automation

For fast, easy and flexible machine shop automation, KUKA Robotics at IMTS 2024 featured the CyberDrawers machine feeding unit from Waybo that uses a KR CYBERTECH industrial robot from KUKA. For turn-key machine tool automation solutions, the feeding system is suited for turning centers and milling machines. The system is programed using a simple, internally designed interface that calculates nearly all the robot's movements; setting up for a new production process is quick and easy.

During the show, the KR CYBERTECH 6-axis industrial robot handled steel demonstration parts from the CyberDrawers feeding system to a CNC vertical milling machine. This showed how the cell optimizes output while reducing production costs.

"Fast, accurate and versatile, the KR CYBERTECH series encompasses the widest range of models in the low payload category, but with the greatest power density," said a company spokesperson. "They are well suited for space-saving cell concepts, such as the Waybo system, and provide high performance-with particularly low follow-up costs."

The multifunctional KR CYBERTECH robots are specially designed for handling large components in machining, assembly, palletizing and arc welding applications. Load capacities are from 8 kg to 35 kg with maximum arm reaches of 1,612 mm to 2,013 mm.

All Waybo products are fully modular and compatible with each other and optimize operations while reducing production costs. The cells integrate with the latest as well as oldest machine tools, and interfacing is possible with other equipment, such as marking machines, digital inspection machines, saws, grinding wheels and more.

Waybo can configure its CyberDrawers system with one to four drawers that each measure 670 mm x 775 mm x 150 mm and accommodate loads up to 100 kg each. Initial installation of the whole Waybo system typically takes only a day. The system is fenceless and comes prewired and assembled. There is a user-friendly touchscreen interface, and available secondary operations include part inspection, marking and cleaning.

All KUKA automation solutions are backed by the company's expert service and support for training, complete system engineering and simulation, readily available spare parts, robot refurbishment and more, all of which are easily accessible through my.KUKA.com.
