Z-Lock Workholding System

A popular Z-Lock set-up consists of a Royal Z-Lock Dual-which includes two receivers mounted to a baseplate-and the Z-Lock Top Plate Dual, where one plate gets loaded offline while the other is working inside the machining center. Studs are included with all top plates.

The Z-Lock Zero-Point workholding system from Royal Products is engineered to quickly interchange workpieces. The system is designed for use on vertical, horizontal and 5-axis machining centers.

A precision receiver mounts to a machining center table or 5-axis rotary table. Workpieces are added to top plates offline, keeping spindles in the cut for maximum production. Top plates are designed to interchange in seconds with high precision and repeatability.

The solution uses a heavy-duty clamping screw that engages the matching tapered groove in the stud, providing secure clamping force.

The Z-Lock system features simple manual actuation. With a few turns of a hex key it is locked, with no risk of the top plate loosening from vibration, spring wear or air/hydraulic failure. The Royal Z-Lock is also easy to implement-no external air or hydraulic lines are needed.

The Z-Lock system offers precision repeatability of 0.0001", 0.0001" and 0.00005" (XYZ). It achieves up to 11,240 lbs. (50 kN) of clamping force, and a hardened locking screw contains a large, sturdy engagement surface for failsafe operation.
