Fast, High-Resolution Optical Sensor

Alicona offers InfiniteFocus, its fifth generation of high-resolution optical 3D measurement systems. This form and roughness measuring device is based on the focus-variation principle implying coverage of full functionality of a micro-coordinate measurement system and a roughness measurement device with only one sensor. "All surface features are measured with a single multifunctional sensor," said a company spokesperson. "One of the aims of the latest and most user-oriented development efforts in the field of new generation devices was broadening the opportunities for industrial application of focus variation concerning the spheres of technology and user-friendliness. Some of the benefits of the new InfiniteFocus are a large number of applications, high automation and fast, robust measurements."

Innovations

According to the spokesperson, one feature that differentiates the new InfiniteFocus from the previous generation of these devices is 20 times increase of measurement speed. Users currently perform measurements at the speed of 1.7 million measuring points per second. "Additionally, Alicona extends the range of measurable surfaces and materials which, due to usage of LED-ringlight consisting of 24 individual controllable segments, is now nearly unlimited," said the spokesperson. Options such as automatic setting of optimal measurement parameters are also available.

InfiniteFocus is designed to be practically maintenance-free. "The device is easily operated and functions independently from the user," said the spokesperson. "This, in combination with a wide application range and now even denser and more robust measurements, allows multiple inter-divisional usages for various materials and purposes."

Applications

According to the company, usage of InfiniteFocus for quality assurance purposes has already become a standard in tool and moldmaking industries. "The measurements are focused on cutting-edge geometries, such as complete measurement of form and roughness of drills and cutters," said the spokesperson. "By means of using the non-contact measurement system in materials researches and process optimization, manufacturers can maximize their benefit further in micro and precision production, the automotive industry, medical technology, the injection molding industry, the aerospace and aeronautics industry, electronics and forensics."
