Rotary Table Optimized for Grinding Wheel Dressing

The FJRD-120 rotary table from Carl Hirschmann, featuring cutting-edge direct drive motor technology, is engineered specifically for grinding wheel dressing. Designed to support workloads of up to 50 kg (110 lbs.), it offers machine tool users enhanced precision and performance.

"By eliminating gears, the direct drive motor helps ensure absolute zero backlash, making it highly desirable for applications requiring extreme accuracy," said a company spokesperson. "Its responsiveness allows a wide range of speeds, with the FJRD-120 reaching an impressive maximum of 1,500 RPM-ideal for demanding machining operations."

This rotary table is compatible with sinker and wire EDM systems and is designed for full submersion in water or oil. Its innovative double-seal mechanism, in conjunction with an integrated flushing assembly, provides protection against dielectric fluid and abrasive particle intrusion. A secondary redundant seal works in tandem with a built-in sensor that detects fluid breaches, triggering a fault signal if necessary-providing operational reliability.

Carl Hirschmann refers to this rotary table as a three-in-one solution, capable of performing as the following:

  • A spindle: for high-speed rotation up to 1,500 RPM, enabling a wire EDM to process workpieces like a traditional lathe.
  • A precision positioning indexer: for accurate part alignment and applications requiring 2D features.
  • A turn-while-burn axis: fully integrated into machine controls for advanced machining of complex geometries.

Advanced features for machine tool users:

  • Microfiber rings: Replacing traditional current brushes, these innovative rings handle up to 50 amps of cutting power while eliminating wear issues associated with conventional brushes.
  • LED status display: A color LED display on the housing provides real-time status updates, maintenance alerts and error notifications. Users can access detailed sensor data via a WiFi-enabled integrated web server.
  • Automated lubrication system: An onboard lubrication cartridge continuously delivers optimal lubrication to the bearings, reducing maintenance needs and extending service life.
  • Integrated pneumatic clamping system: As a standard, the FJRD-120 includes an internal HSK-80A or HSK-63A pneumatic clamper. Optionally, a faceplate can be installed to accommodate many fixturing or workholding solutions.

"The FJRD-120's design simplifies operations and reduces downtime for companies involved in grinding wheel dressing. By combining precision, versatility and ease of maintenance, it offers a robust solution tailored to the challenges of abrasive wheel manufacturing applications," said the spokesperson.
