Raptor-Ready Dovetail Blanks Eliminate Material Prep

Raptor-Ready Dovetail Blanks are produced expressly for patented Raptor Worlkholding fixtures and available directly from TCI Precision Metals, a value-added materials distributor.

Raptor Workholding Products and TCI Precision Metals have announced the availability of Raptor-Ready Dovetail Blanks, produced for patented Raptor Workholding fixtures and available directly from TCI Precision Metals.

Raptor Workholding fixtures are designed to add value and efficiency to 4- and 5-axis CNC machining centers in use today. The key to the Raptor design is a patented dovetail, which is added to one surface of the material prior to production machining. The dovetail locks securely into the Raptor fixture and allows the part to be fully machined on five sides. Once complete the dovetail can be trimmed off, or the part can be clamped using traditional methods to add details to the final surface.

In preparation for finish machining, each part must be rough cut and precision machined on one surface to add the patented dovetail feature. As with any machining operation, material preparation is a necessary part of the process, but often causes a reduction in spindle time, creates inefficiencies and even bottlenecks on production jobs. "Raptor-Ready Dovetail Blanks eliminate this material prep, allowing shops to get right to the high value of finish machining," said a company spokesperson.

Raptor-Ready Blanks are produced to customer specifications in quantities from one to thousands with quick turnaround. Each Raptor-Ready Dovetail Blank arrives clean, packaged and ready to go from receiving directly into 4- or 5-axis CNC machining centers.

The benefits include:

  • Eliminate material prep
  • Reduce cycle time, chip-to-chip
  • Reduce set-up time, including the number of set-ups
  • Better inventory management
  • Reduce bottlenecks.
