High-Speed Tube & Pipe Cutting

Mazak Optonics Corporation's TUBE GEAR 2D laser-cutting machine achieves high processing speeds for thin-walled tubes and pipes. "The TUBE GEAR's high-speed capabilities offer increased efficiency to meet the current marketplace's strong demand for small-size tube and pipe applications. This increased efficiency creates a significant reduction of the cost per part compared to similar tube and pipe cutting systems," said a company spokesperson.

Available with a 2.5kW or 4kW resonator, the TUBE GEAR can process round and rectangular tube and pipe with diameters of up to 6 inches. It has a standard 5" Servo Focus torch and a new FANUC 31i control and drive system to improve processing speed.

According to the company, the TUBE GEAR is equipped with a triple chuck system that minimizes warp and material vibration, allowing for higher accuracy and faster processing speeds compared to double chuck systems. The additional chuck and the machine's rigid construction ensure superior cutting precision for material up to 24' long.

The system's ergonomic design positions loading, unloading and operation on the same side of the machine to improve efficiency and minimize required floor space. It includes a bundle material load/unload system that allows for increased throughput for lot sizes up to 4.2 tons while still comprising a smaller footprint than similar machines.

Other standard features of the TUBE GEAR include an automated lens focal distance measurement system, automated calibration function and a nozzle cleaning system. There is also an optional automated nozzle change system to significantly reduce machine setup times.
