Flexible Job Shop Laser-Cutting System

"Mazak Optonics has introduced its OPTIPLEX 3015, a 2D flying optics laser-cutting machine that combines advanced automatic set-up features and superior cutting speeds for accurately processing material thicknesses from the thinnest of steel to 1 inch mild steel," said a company spokesperson.

The machine comes standard with an Intelligent torch changer, Intelligent nozzle changer, and Intelligent auto focal distance measurement and adjustment that allows job shops to save on set-up time. A new servo system automatically sets the optimum focal point by program command to reduce piercing time.

The OPTIPLEX also employs a flexible, high-speed two-pallet changer with a rack and pinion positioning system that offers high throughput and rugged construction. "The two-pallet changer is 58 percent faster than what was previously found on Mazak laser machines. Moreover, the torch, nozzle and pallet changing can occur simultaneously to further minimize non-cutting time and maximize throughput," said the spokesperson.

A 4,000-watt Type 10 resonator directs the machine's laser beam to the cutting torch using an exclusive constant-beam length delivery system, which helps produce uniform, accurate cutting anywhere on the machine table. A U-axis allows the constant-beam delivery length to remain stable throughout the cutting process. The delivery system is equipped with only six external bend mirrors, which improve the amount of power at the torch. The resonator also features an ECO Mode, which reduces the laser's electricity use during the cutting process as well as reduces laser gas consumption and air consumption by 50 percent and 30 percent, respectively.

Rapid X/Y traverse speeds of 4,724 IPM allow the OPTIPLEX 3015 to maneuver around maximum workpiece sizes of 60" x 120" and shorten part-processing times.

The OPTIPLEX 3015 comes with a new MAZATROL Preview 2 CNC that features a 15" touch screen and automatically determines the required lens, nozzle, feedrate and laser output for different materials and thicknesses. "The CNC makes it possible to achieve ultra high speeds together with high precision cutting," said the spokesperson.
