EDM for High Performance Graphite Machining
April 1, 2014
"Within many shops, the milling of graphite normally is a dusty process and involves extensive planning for containment of the dust from the shop floor," said an EDM Network, Inc. spokesperson. "The Chmer HM5042L creates the perfect solution for the graphite dust issue by using a unique oil shroud dust control system, which contains and captures the dust in an EDM oil curtain."
The Chmer HM5042L allows the choice of four different controls (Gentec, Heidenhain, Siemens, FANUC). Incorporating 5-axis capability, an HSK 30,000 RPM spindle plus automatic tool length measurement allows for efficient machining of complex jobs. The tank system is designed to utilize EDM oil coolant for the cutting process. The use of EDM oil is intended to prevent graphite electrode contamination as well as provide ease of maintenance by using standard EDM filters for capturing the graphite and allowing for quick change over.
The Chmer HM5042L is designed with a gantry configuration and 3-axis linear motor drives for reliability and longevity.
EDM Network is the exclusive importer and service provider for Chmer EDMs and high-speed mills in North America.
