RBW Enterprise's FasterBlaster centrifugal shot blasting machine is now being offered in two sizes with two power options. "Designed to blast clean both vertical and horizontal surfaces and pipe, it is now available in models that can cover either 16 inch or 32 inch blast patterns with savings in time, labor, cleanup, wastes and, above all, costs," said a company spokesperson. Both units are available with a choice of 30 HP or 60 HP electric motor.
"The FasterBlaster is a fully contained system, so little or no costly environmental protection measures have to be taken at the job site," said the spokesperson. "Several factors result in drastically cutting job time and costs. There is no post-project clean up or disposal of the thousands of tons of sand debris that would be prevalent with traditional sandblasting equipment."
The FasterBlaster steel shot blaster recycles steel shot within the blast unit, and paint that is being removed from the surface being blasted is exhausted to the portable dust collector through a flexible 6" hose, which eliminates the need for an enclosed scaffold set-up. The company reported that these features improve project time, which adds up to reduced costs for the customer.
"The FasterBlaster system is being utilized for cleaning water tanks, petrochemical tanks, wind tower sections, plate and pipe on jobs ranging from flat surfaces such as roofs and floors to vertical operations where it literally climbs the walls," said the spokesperson. "The unit has a flat mat seal that creates a suction cup affect against the wall, roof or floor surface. The seal vacuums tightly over weld seals. There are zero emissions, making it possible for paint to be applied simultaneously near the operating machine.
"With shot blasting equipment there is no clean up required, and the total disposable wastes are only a few drums of paint dust, metallic dust, rust and media fines. A single technician on the ground utilizing a wireless hand held remote control operates the FasterBlaster. Either 30 HP or 60 HP electric motors that drive centrifugal blast wheels to throw steel shot against the surface power the units. No air is required in the blasting process. The machines seal tightly to the surface due to the high vacuum generated by the dust collector, and there are no emissions around the suction cup seal.
"The FasterBlaster 16 can clean closely around obstructions and the FasterBlaster 32 is recommended for wide-open areas. Both mobile and easy to move and set-up, these machines provide blast cleaning for tank floors, roofs, internal and external walls, wind towers, pipe, plate and concrete floors. They are also effective for blast cleaning dome roof and knuckle roof curved surfaces. The machines clean floors or plate while moving either forward or in reverse, and clean walls while moving up or down the surfaces. The FasterBlaster can be turned a full 90 to clean close to the ground on tank walls and it blast cleans close to vents, pipes and other obstructions.
"FasterBlaster's one-man operation cuts labor costs as a single operator's production equals that of three to six hand blasters. Using an electric generator, rather than compressed air, adds additional savings. Total maintenance costs average one cent per square foot in a typical job that produces just two to three 55-gallon drums of total waste disposal. The units can blast clean from 300 to 900 sq. ft. per hour on new or painted steel surfaces, depending upon surface conditions, type and thickness of paint and the cleaning specifications. The units provide a 2-5 mil profile, depending upon the size of steel shot being used.
