IMTS 2026: Hypertherm Brings Augmented Reality Part Placement Technology
September 19, 2026Hypertherm Associates, a New Hampshire-based manufacturer of industrial cutting systems and software, will showcase its new IntelliMAX Vision augmented reality (AR) part placement software at IMTS 2026, booth #135020.
The technology will be demonstrated on an OptiMAX 60X abrasive waterjet cutting machine to highlight how operators can use AR to place and adjust parts on a workpiece before making a cut.
IntelliMAX Vision gives manufacturers a live camera view inside the IntelliMAX Suite’s MAKE CAD/CAM layout, which allows them to see the cutting envelope and visually position and rotate parts directly over the actual material.
Unlike third-party camera systems or workflows that rely on static images, IntelliMAX Vision is designed to connect the waterjet machine’s hardware and software seamlessly. The IntelliMAX Software Suite is a highly advanced, yet intuitive CAD/CAM system that quickly converts designs into machined parts. By combining the camera view with AR capabilities, IntelliMAX Vision helps manufacturers digitally optimize part placement before cutting, making it easier to maximize material utilization and move from setup to cutting with greater confidence.
“Material utilization matters in every shop, and especially for aerospace manufacturing, where a full plate of titanium and even the remnant represent significant cost,” explained Arion Vandergon, Hypertherm Associates Director of Product Management, Waterjet. “The ability to quickly position part geometry to make the best use of available material can translate into meaningful gains in yield and less material left on the table.”
