Haimer Introduces New Power Cooler

The Haimer Power Cooler is a new cooling unit for the shrink-fitting of tools. An air stream interspersed with a fine water mist cools shrink fit chucks of any shape in record time, the company said.

"The contact-based cooling units that Haimer offers primarily with its Power Clamp shrink fit devices, operate with water-cooled cooling sleeves. Although a clean and effective solution, this requires an individual sleeve for every shrink fit chuck size and shape or else a suitable adapter," said a company spokesperson. "In comparison, the new Haimer Power Cooler can be used universally. It operates fast due to the technology that is based on an air stream interspersed with a fine water mist.

"The Power Cooler works as follows: The freshly shrunk and hot tool is placed under a bell-shaped cover in the device. The bell-shaped cover is lowered mechanically and covers the tool. The operator then presses a button to activate the stream of air containing the finest drops of water which streams in from above. These drops moisten the hot tool evenly and evaporate more or less instantly. The cold resulting from the evaporation cools the tool much faster than is the case with a water shower or immersion bath. The reason: There is no vapor layer that can build up between the hot surface and the water bath and thus it prevents heat conduction. The risk of one-sided tool distortion is also prevented due to even moistening. The tool is dried with a sharp stream of air once the cooling process is completed. A system of mobile air gaps ensures that any remaining drops are carried away by the air. The tool comes out of the device cooled and, just as important, completely dry.

"Tests have shown that, especially in the case of thick-walled shrink fit chucks such as Haimer Heavy Duty Chucks, the Power Cooler cools twice as fast as the conventional cooling systems available on the market. The time needed for smaller tool holders is about the same.

"By slipping a bell-shaped cover over the holder Haimer has created a closed circuit that prevents any water escaping, no splashes, steam or condensation. The air stream carries away all the moisture. A condenser integrated in the bottom of the Power Cooler finally separates the water from the air and feeds it back into the tank in which the cooling mist is generated. In other words, a solution that can be used in clean environments such as tool presetting areas.

"The Haimer Power Cooler is designed as a stand-alone device. It can also be docked onto the modular Power Clamp shrink fit systems from Haimer easily."
