Grinding Technology Specializes in Round Carbide Tooling

Grinding Technology offers cutting tools up to 1.25" in diameter.

Grinding Technology LLC is a Houston, TX, tool grinding shop that uses the latest technology to produce round carbide tools, varying in size up to 1.25 inches in diameter. "I really was glad to get back in this business," said Adolfo Perez, co-owner and President. "I was even happier to find a company that had a solid customer base." Adolfo left the Chicago area for warmer climates after building a company up from scratch to one that produced over a million dollars worth of carbide tooling a year. Walter grinders are the common factor in both of these businesses, but Adolfo soon discovered that the local tooling requirements were more demanding than those in Cook County (Chicago). "Heat Resistant Super Alloys (HSRA) like Inconel 718 were a big problem for some of our customers," said Adolfo. He and co-owner Bill Perego have helped their customers reduce cycle times and increase tool life by using advanced programming methods.

"We're happy to sell a customer our high performance end mills, but we are truly gratified when they report back to us with a cost savings across the board," said Bill Perego. Bill's history in local manufacturing, recent sales experience with tooling companies and customer service have prepared him for this role as co-owner of a tool grinding company, the company said.

"Additionally, over 75 customers depend on Grinding Technology's CNC machines and skilled shop employees for their regrind services, which range from 1/4" end mills to 3" spiral flute taps to high-performance drills," said a company spokesperson. "Many of these customers also use special form tools, step tools or counter bores to make complex and close tolerance ports. Some of these tools have a diameter tolerance of .0002. Some customers ask for a quote on tools they have designed and some just send a section of their part print and ask Adolfo or Bill to design the tool. Either way, the special tool is manufactured, inspected, coated and shipped within a three week time frame, or sooner if the customer requires it.

"Grinding Technology's high performance end mills offer features that help avoid harmonics, like unequal indexing and variable helix and they also have a standard line of end mills. Inventory can also be maintained for customers that require a quick delivery."
