Yama Seiki offers its line of Goodway Swiss-type turning centers. The Goodway SW series machines provide up to 9-axis control and 4-axis coordinate motion by leveraging components such as the high-speed built-in spindle, complete tooling system and flexible design of hybrid guide bush. SW series machines are available with a sub-spindle, live tooling and accompanying bar feeder.
"Swiss-style turning centers are considered by some to be more challenging to program and operate compared to turret lathes, machining centers and cylindrical grinders," said a company spokesperson. "However, they bring to the table higher quality parts, increased throughput and-for shops that do not yet have a Swiss-style lathe-higher profits off improved workmanship as well as new business opportunities."
Machining Variations
The current lineup of SW series includes the SW-20 (20 mm max. machining diameter), the SW-32 (32 mm max. machining diameter) and the SW-42 (42 mm max. machining diameter). Each of these Swiss-type turning centers offers flexible operations such as turning, milling, cross drilling, tapping and other complicated work requirements for micro and precise parts.
Coupled with a different combination of power systems, main spindle, sub-spindle, front-end tooling, rear-end tooling, C-axis and live tools, the workpiece can be finished on the machine-this also allows two operations to be machined simultaneously. "This has seen widespread application of our SW series machines in the automobile, electronic, timepiece and medical industries, to name a few," said the spokesperson.
Standard and Optional Features
The SW series features modular spindle construction, which can be exchanged to bush-type or bushless-type depending on different work requirements. The bushless design is suitable for machining cold-forged bars or high priced raw materials. The bush-type can be rotated with high speed for less surface damage and to increase working performance.
All SW series spindle and servo motors come standard with FANUC-certified high-performance components to help ensure peak machining performance and accuracy. C3 class hardened and precision ground ball screws offer high accuracy and durability, and pretension on all axes minimizes thermal distortion. All machines include fully enclosed splashguards designed to keep chips and coolant contained for a safe, clean working environment. Air bags are included to minimize damage in the event of a machine crash, which saves on repairs, prevents production loss and ultimately keeps the machine functional.
Automatic lubrication is provided to all slide ways, ball screws and vital components. Maintenance-free piston distributors deliver a precise quantity of oil to each lubrication point. Distribution is automatically shut off during idling to prevent waste. The piston distributors are non-clogging and the design allows for minimal lube consumption.
An optional A/C unit is available to control the temperature and humidity inside the electrical cabinet to extend the life of electrical components.
