OMAX Corporation will showcase how its advanced abrasive waterjet technology quickly and accurately cuts simple to complex parts from virtually any material. "Visitors will discover the endless machining possibilities of the company's premium OMAX JetMachining Centers, versatile MAXIEM JetCutting Centers and innovative accessories," said a company spokesperson.
The company's JetMachining Center lineup, which consists of cantilever and bridge-style machines, is available in table sizes that range from 2' x 2' up to 46' 8" x 13' 4". The 80X bridge-style machine, featuring an X-Y cutting travel of 13' 4" x 6' 8", will exemplify the lineup at the show and demonstrate its ability to cut large-scale components and multi-part projects from steel, composites, exotic alloys and more.
"The 80X provides higher cutting speeds and greater precision than competitive designs through use of the company's intuitive Intelli-MAX software suite," said the spokesperson. "Not only does the software simplify the control of the jet stream while cutting, it also automates programming and tool set-up work. Furthermore, the company's EnduroMAX Pump enables the 80X to deliver more horsepower to the cutting nozzle using less electricity than that of a machine with an intensifier pump."
With an A-Jet cutting head accessory, the 80X JetMachining Center produces precise angled cuts and bevels as well as automatically corrects for the taper normally found in an abrasive waterjet cut. Equipped with a MAXJET 5i, a long-life diamond integrated nozzle, the A-Jet adds two motion axes, enabling the nozzle to tilt over a range of 0° to 60° from the vertical position. It can also cut countersunk holes and machine parts with complex geometries. With its additional axes of motion, the A-Jet allows production of beveled edges in preparation for welding operations.
For FABTECH attendees seeking a versatile abrasive waterjet machining system, OMAX Corporation will spotlight its MAXIEM JetCutting Centers with the 1530 model. According to the company, these machines are ideal for fabrication shops, metal service centers, trade schools and job shops. With X-Y cutting travels that range between 2' 6" x 2' 6" and 53' 4" x 13' 4", MAXIEM JetCutting Centers cut components from a wide variety of materials, including metal, plastic, glass, ceramics, stone and composites.
The MAXIEM 1530 features a compact footprint with an X-Y cutting travel of 10' 2" x 5' 2", making it well suited for smaller fabrication shops and metal service centers. "Through the company's Intelli-MAX software suite and direct drive pump technology, the machine easily and cost-effectively cuts high-quality simple and complex parts from most materials," said the spokesperson. "Furthermore, the machine cuts parts directly from the plate with a single tool to reduce set-up time and material usage."
With an electrically operated motorized Z-axis, the MAXIEM 1530 is able to achieve precise nozzle positioning. The accessory provides 8.75" of travel and heads-up traverse to avoid obstacles. A "move all up" command enables the motorized Z-axis to quickly move the nozzle out of the way after tool path completion. Operators can pre-program the motorized Z-axis using the OMAX 3D Path Editor Software to follow vertical contours of parts and obstacles as well as program it with most other CAD/CAM software through a custom post processor.
