Automation Focus at FABTECH 2013

Mitsubishi will be laser focused on automation during FABTECH 2013. "More and more fabricators, job shops and OEMs are joining the Automation Nation to improve productivity, increase throughput, get more consistent performance and optimize process," said a company spokesperson.

There will be two fully automated towers on hand at the Mitsubishi booth, demonstrating the efficiencies that automation can add. These towers will be dedicated to two machines that represent Mitsubishi's newest introductions to the laser cutting market.

"The first introduction is a newer, more accessible version of the 2D eX machine, the most productive and efficient 2D laser machine yet," said the spokesperson. Replacing the former LVP series, eX is the fifth generation in a line of 2D Mitsubishi Lasers. "The machine delivers low running costs and eco-friendly features for power and gas consumption, and stable operation for greater productivity. New to the show will be 3015 eX-S edition, featuring a 2,700 watt resonator."

"The new lower wattage model eX lowers the price point enough to bring the line of product offerings into new, entry level markets," said Bill Isaac, VP of Mitsubishi Laser. "Between the two machines, the eX line is now comprehensive in terms of operator needs and capabilities."

"The eX line features an eco mode that cuts running costs by up to 90 percent during standby. Carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by around 30 percent compared to competitor machines. The machine's new compact design provides a small footprint without reducing table size."

Automation Nation in the form of an automated cell will also be on a 3015 NX-F Fiber Laser, which comes standard with a fiber laser oscillator, a Z-axis linear drive, head preset auto-focus processing, a 64-bit NC with 15-in. touch screen NC-panel and more. The stroke on the NX-F will be 125.9" (3,198 mm) by 62.9" (1,598 mm) by 4.7" (119 mm), with positioning accuracy of 0.0019/20" (0.05/500 mm). And the rapid traverse rate on the single axis machines will be 4,724 in. (120 m) per minute, or 6,680 in. (170 m) per minute on simultaneous machines.

"Mitsubishi will also show its MWX3 waterjet. The model features a bevel head - ideal for fabricators as it can be used for weld prep - and the solid base construction and cantilever head design make it both reliable and affordable. The MWX3 comes standard with a high pressure 125 HP pump, which provides 90,000 PSI of water," said the spokesperson.

FABTECH will be the venue for a brand new Dener press brake, Diamond Elite XL, model DEXL 175-30/ATF. This 3-meter, 175 ton press brake features a 6-axis, fully independent back gage and Wila upper and lower hydraulic clamping. Plus, the machine offers fully automated laser front guarding for maximum safety. Also on hand from Dener will be a 120-ton Diamond Elite 3-meter machine, model BE120-30/AC/X.

Two models from MC Press Brakes will be at the show as well - the fully electric model BB40-13, and a hybrid model BH85-25 ballscrew model. Diamondsoft 3-D bending simulation software will be on display throughout the show.

"Our customers are always changing, growing and becoming more productive," said Isaac, VP. "That means we have to do the same. One way we see that we can help be a solution provider to our customers is to show them what differentiates us in automation; what makes us unique in both service and capability. Another way is to expand our offering into new areas of the laser market, thus providing a more comprehensive product line."
