ER Collet Chuck and Quick Change System in One Toolholder

The QuickFlex quick change system for driven toolholders from WTO is designed to reduce tool change time and provide higher flexibility. It features an ER collet chuck and quick change system in one toolholder.
Basic elements of the system include two independent taper connections. The short taper closely behind the thread of the collet chuck is for radial centering and axial support of the QuickFlex adapter. "This taper guarantees the high precision of the system independent of possible abrasion at the cone of the ER collet chuck," said a company spokesperson. "The location of the taper behind the thread keeps it protected against chips and dirt, providing high precision of the system.
"The short taper also works as a defined contact face, whereas the rear part of the ER collet chuck cone offers backlash-free radial bending support of the QuickFlex adapter. Combined with the large thread, these two taper connections lead to the high rigidity and stability of the system. And, the full performance can be transmitted from the turning center to the cutting tools. The polygonal torque transmission is placed just behind the radial support.
"The tool change is quick and easy with the new one-hand wrench. Just use the one-hand wrench to hold the QuickFlex spindle and tighten the large collet nut with the spanner wrench. The QuickFlex adapters using the inbuilt thread nut are tight the same way. Additionally, the cutting tools can be pre-set while the machine is operating."
The customer can clamp the cutting tools directly in the toolholder using a standard ER collet. The toolholder can be used without a quick change system first, and quick change adapters added later.
QuickFlex covers a range of tool clamping adapter types and sizes. A complete starter kit is available that includes three different adapters and a one-hand wrench set.
