Hommel-Etamic Releases New Measurement System

"Out of the thousands of measurements necessary in manufacturing a first-rate engine, arguably some of the most important are roundness, radial run-out and concentricity of valve seats on cylinder heads. The Hommel-Etamic Valvescan has been designed for fast, high precision measurement of these features," said a company spokesperson.

"The Valvescan utilizes basic pneumatic measurement principles (i.e. air flow at subsonic speeds) to achieve balance, stability, accuracy and reliability, for long gaging and tooling life," the spokesperson said. "Combine this with the TPE99 A/E Converter, and you get a linear high precision measurement system capable of delivering resolutions down to 0.01µm on diameters, 0.7-degrees on angles and 10% or better GR&Rs. Parts aren't required to be absolutely clean as the 'jets' in the air tooling provide high pressure part blow off to remove contaminants from the measurement surfaces.

"SPC32 Software is also included to provide statistical process control capabilities during the measurement processes. SPC32 software can be set up to operate on a computer locally and/or may be setup to run on another computer connected over a network. Multiple workstations may also be connected to a single SPC32 workstation, enabling several process streams to be monitored from a centralized location.

"Capable of being mounted anywhere within the production system, a complete system will consist of the air tooling, dual TPE99 A/E Converters, as well as an industrial controller loaded with versatile multi-language CMZ32 software for fast, accurate and automatic measurement. Additionally the CMZ32 software can output measurement results in Q-Das or Infinity."
