"Chevalier FBL500 Series big-bore slant bed lathes are stable, highly accurate machines that can handle rough and fine turning operations on large workpieces," said a company spokesperson. "It features headstocks up to 12.5 inch spindle hole diameter, 3-4 speed range, A2-15 spindle nose, 18-24 inch chuck sizes and 6 inch bar capacity. The turret is 7.87 inches thick and features a curved teeth clutch for maximum tool clamping. The standard MT6 rotary quill eliminates the need for live centers. The hydraulically driven, programmable tailstock improves machining accuracy. The turret travels 78.74 inches on induction hardened and ground guideways, which are 5.12 inches wide and 3.15 inches thick. A vibration dampening ballscrew support on the Z-axis prevents ballscrew deformation during heavy loads, ensuring accuracy." |

A powerful 4-stage spindle gearbox maximizes metal removal at lower spindle speeds. The 60 HP spindle provides 5,250 lbs of torque and is supported by double row roller bearings with large contact surfaces for high precision, heavy-duty cutting. Models come with 40.5 inch swing over bed, 78.74/118/157.48 inch distance between centers, 31.49 inch swing over cross slide and 37 inch maximum cutting diameter. X-axis travel is 19.29 inches while XZ rapids are 394/472 IPM. Models come with 1,000/600/500 RPM speed options depending on spindle size.
The machine is equipped with a hydraulic 12-tool turret for turning, boring, drilling, grooving and threading capabilities. The machine can be fitted with an optional 3.15 inch boring bar holder, BMT95 powered turret with 15 HP motor, auto bar loader and a bar magazine for unattended operation. "The one-piece Meehanite casting is heavily ribbed for maximum damping and improved stability," the spokesperson said. "Slanted 45-degrees, it offers a low center of gravity, enhancing chip flow while providing convenient access during loading and unloading of workpieces, tool and chuck replacement and tailstock repositioning. The steeply sloped internal sheet metal, along with a high volume coolant washdown system pushes the chips down to the chip conveyor channel. To simplify setup and operations, these lathes feature FANUC OiTD control with optional Manual Guide i for conversational editing with 3D cycle simulation to verify the machining cycle, thereby reducing the need for test cuts."
