DMG Introduces the New DMF 260 linear

The new DMF 260 linear from DMG now offers a 3,150 IPM rapid traverse in all axes and longer traverse paths in the Y and Z axis as compared to its smaller predecessor. The new DMF 260 linear has 43.3" of Y axis travel (15.7" longer) and 35.4" of Z axis travel (7.9" more).

The DMF series of moving column machining centers are suited for applications in the aerospace industry, machine construction as well as tool making and mold production. Another new feature of the DMF 260 linear is the optional 10,000 RPM high performance spindle with 212.4 lb-ft torque and an SK50 or HSK A63 interface. Other spindle options include a 14,000 RPM or 18,000 RPM spindle. The standard spindle is 8,000 RPM.

The DMF 260 linear can be upgraded and converted to meet diverse applications from 3-axis milling to 5-axis simultaneous machining. It's long work table not only allows clamping of long work pieces and multiple clamping of small work pieces, but also (in combination with the optional partition) machining in the pendulum mode as well as series production with two separate machining compartments.

The DMF series has a sturdy machine base made of vibration-damping mineral casting material and the thermo-symmetric moving column. For workpiece precision the DMF 260 linear uses a combination of backlash-free direct drive technology in the X-axis and direct measuring systems. The standard version of the follower-type tool magazine arranged directly adjacent holds 30 tools and offers fast in-process tool change intervals for short chip-to-chip times. As an option, the tool capacity can be increased to 60 or 120.

Another option on the DMF 260 linear is to use a CNC controlled B-axis instead of the standard vertical milling head. When combined with an integrated NC indexing table as an additional C-axis the DMF 260 offers 5-axis machining. In this case, the long X-axis of the DMF 260 linear even allows the integration of two NC indexing tables and, as a result (in conjunction with the partition in the machining compartment), 5-axis machining of smaller work pieces in pendulum mode at short make-ready times.

The DMF 260 linear uses the ergonomic DMG ERGOline Control with a 19" screen, optionally the High-3D control systems from Siemens (Sinumerik 840D solutionline including ShopMill) or Heidenhain (iTNC 530 including SmarT.NC) are available.
