CAM Software at EMO 2019

OPEN MIND Technologies will feature its advanced hyperMILL CAM software at EMO 2019. Highlights will include high-precision milling and turning, as well as the latest strategies in its hyperMILL MAXX Machining High-Performance Package and hyperMILL VIRTUAL Machining, an NC code-based simulation solution. OPEN MIND will have live demonstrations showcasing efficient machining processes resulting in parts with mirror-smooth surface finishes.

Developed with Industry 4.0 in mind, hyperMILL VIRTUAL Machining enables constant real-time bi-directional communication between the machine tool controller and remote hyperMILL VIRTUAL Machining simulation, improving manufacturing workflow. At EMO this year, OPEN MIND will introduce CONNECTED Machining, a module of hyperMILL VIRTUAL Machining. For optimal data exchange between the programming and machining processes, CONNECTED Machining utilizes the NC code after post-processing to enable real-time synchronization and simulation between the machine and hyperMILL. In addition, based on processing results, the hyperMILL VIRTUAL Machining NC Optimizer automatically selects paths that consider limited machine axes or potential interference with asymmetric machine head.

Several strategies in the hyperMILL MAXX Machining High-Performance Package will be demonstrated including a Perfect Pocketing technology from OPEN MIND that ensures efficient pocket processing using high-feed milling cutters. An intelligent algorithm identifies the largest pocket for roughing, and automatically generates linear toolpaths accordingly.

Also, the new 5-axis Prismatic fillet finishing function in hyperMILL MAXX machining will be highlighted at EMO. Five-axis Prismatic fillet finishing enables the geometry and automatic inclination of barrel cutters to be applied similar to high feed cutters, using a plunging and pulling movement at high feedrates. Maximum performance is attainable using conical barrel cutters (also known as arc segment or circle segment end mills). Ball or bull nose end mills can also be efficiently utilized with this milling strategy.
