Protective Black Finish for Small Quantities of Metal Parts

Birchwood Technologies' BK-1 Mini PRESTO BLACK finishing line is designed to protect small quantities of iron and steel parts from corrosion.

The BK-1 line is a low-cost alternative and/or substitute for large scale finishing. This mini PRESTO BLACK room temperature blackening system for iron and steel is suitable for small production operations that require robust corrosion resistance and galling protection on critical surfaces. All types of parts, from machine components to metal stampings and more, are suitable for this PRESTO BLACK process.

"Many manufacturers prefer PRESTO BLACK over the hot oxide method. It is a short, 15-minute process that eliminates the hazards of hot oxide by operating at room temperature," said a company spokesperson. It provides high corrosion resistance tested for up to 800 hours humidity exposure when sealed with an appropriate rust preventive.

Most important, the PRESTO BLACK process produces a virtually non-dimensional coating of less than 0.5 micron thickness. It is suited for components requiring a black finish for visual appeal as well as rust protection.

The PRESTO BLACK BK-1 system contains seven tanks and covers, hot-plate (for heated cleaner), plus all the chemicals needed to operate a five-gallon blackening line. This includes one gallon of Presto Black MKP, one gallon of Presto Black RPL, five gallons of Dri-Touch Plus IRP3 water displacing sealant and easy-to-follow instructions.
