Expanded Microstar CMM Line

Helmel Engineering Products, Inc. has introduced an extended range of higher accuracy Microstar CMMs.
"Traditionally, Helmel builds all-mechanical bearing moving-bridge systems with emphasis on intrinsic mechanical accuracy. Its CMMs are manufactured to be physically straight, flat, parallel, square and true to deliver accuracy without extensive software error correction," said a company spokesperson. With the introduction of the midsize range called Microstar XA, a single air bearing is incorporated at the bottom of the following (outboard) bridge leg and it rides on the surface of the granite plate. This hybrid construction retains the durability and reliability, but adds a hysteresis-free bridge leg designed to improve repeatability and accuracy.
The XA series will apply volumetric software error compensation while maintaining the underlying integrity of intrinsic accuracy. Systems will incorporate higher resolution scales in X, Y and Z and temperature compensation with scale and workpiece sensors. Performance enhancements will be available for the 25" x 30", 30" x 40" and 40" x 60" Microstar sizes.
Another addition to the Microstar line is the Pro version, with improvements for production environments. These systems have extra protection for ways and bearings added to the basic Microstar line. Options for temperature compensation and added vibration isolation are available. Helmel offers turn-key options and services from fixture design/build to integration with automation. Pro configurations will be available in the 20" x 25" platform as well as the sizes listed above.
