Robust corrosion protection and break-in lubricity while resisting galling are important features of the exclusive TRU TEMP low temperature black oxide process.
"A growing number of manufacturers of oil and gas drilling components rely on TRU TEMP because it forms a satin black magnetite finish that protects critical surfaces in storage, shipment and start-up," said a Birchwood Technologies spokesperson. The TRU TEMP in-house process takes just 30 minutes to apply. The finish is Mil-Spec and RoHS compliant and withstands up to 100-150 hours of neutral salt spray or several hundred hours of humidity, verified by independent testing. The finish is 0.5 microns thick (20 millionths) and has no effect on material hardness or load-bearing properties. Its crystalline structure allows it to effectively hold a rust inhibitor and serves as a sacrificial barrier to provide break-in lubricity and galling resistance. Critical parts are protected in storage or overseas shipment.
"For these reasons, oil and gas component manufacturers are rapidly making TRU TEMP low temperature black oxide a preferred finish," added the spokesperson. "As a smart equipment investment, the TRU TEMP process can be installed in any plant setting, without endangering personnel or surrounding equipment." The operating solutions contain no EPA regulated chemicals; process rinse waters are normally sent to sewer as non-hazardous discharge. Most process lines do not require waste treatment equipment.
In areas with restricted water/sewer availability, the TRU TEMP process can be configured to utilize the NEAR-ZERO Water Recycler to reduce process water consumption by up to 90%. This benefit simplifies installation and allows the line to operate with low water usage. TRU TEMP process lines are available in any size to fit part size and production volume.
