Newly Engineered High-Speed Gantry Loader Boosts Productivity

Murata Machinery USA, Inc., a provider of high-volume production turning centers, has announced the introduction of the newly engineered high-speed gantry loader featured on its MW120EX machine.

"The MW120EX's re-designed high-speed gantry loader incorporates two big innovations," said a company spokesperson. "First, the Y-axis beam is made of composite material, which reduces the weight by 35%, but maintains the strength and rigidity that all Muratec gantries are known for. Secondly, a front-mounted guide rail has been added to reduce the cantilever effect of moving the X-axis at these great speeds."

"The combined benefits, along with its extreme precision, yield a 50% increase in gantry traverse speed," the spokesperson added. "Compared to its standard MW120G, Murata is reducing the minimum cycle time by five seconds, utilizing the new high-speed gantry."

Because of the reduced weight of the overall gantry, Murata Machinery is able to reduce the size of servo motors in X, Y and Z.

"All of our gantry loaders are three axes, which allows for a lot of flexibility with in-feed and out-feed devices," said Steve Landrum, Sales Manager of Turning Products. "So, reducing even more weight through smaller servo motors was an added benefit to the speed of the gantry."

The MW120EX is currently available and is fully customizable, tailored specifically to customer's needs for a turn-key solution.
