Robotic Automation System with Blue Laser Technology

Origin Technologies Corporation offers LaserGauge Automation, a robotic system for measuring vehicle gap/flush on a moving assembly line. "This cost-effective and flexible system is designed to deliver LaserGauge measurements quickly and accurately on solid body panels and around windows, headlights, tail lights and other translucent surfaces," said a company spokesperson.

"Previously Origin incorporated the cross-vector scanning technology into our LaserGauge line of handheld products. Later we added that same capability to end-of-arm automation tools for measuring on moving assembly lines. Now, we have added Blue Laser Technology for measuring gap/flush around transparent panels to our automation solution. Utilizing the cross-vector scanning technology, Blue Laser and the LaserGauge Virtual Gauges, the system produces accurate measurements on many different surface types, including those that are translucent or transparent," said Brad Powell, Origin Technologies Corporation Co-Founder. "Flexibility and ease of set-up have been designed into the system. Using a standard Ethernet connection, the sensor can communicate using any number of industrial networks such as Profibus, DeviceNet, Modbus DP, etc.

The Automation software and the robot controller use two-way communications to control sequencing and operation. With its modular design, LaserGauge Automation can be installed by the plant's robot integrator, and can be expanded to utilize two, four or more robots at one station. The flexibility of the system allows the plant to develop new inspection routines or modify existing ones without having to call in a programmer.
