Sliding Headstock Automatic Lathe

Sliding headstock TRAUB TNL12

Control TRAUB TX8i-s

The work area

High-frequency

TRAUB recently presented the CNC sliding headstock automatic lathe TNL12 now equipped with the new TRAUB TX8i-s control - a production tool in a modular design that adapts to efficient production of small, high-precision turned parts up to 13 mm in diameter. Workpiece complexity is decisive for the configuration of the machine, for which up to 9 linear axes are available.

"The concept of the TRAUB TNL12 is based on the innovative arrangement of all four tool carriers in two working levels that cross each other," said a company spokesperson. "The tool carriers 1 and 2, each with six stations for stationary or individually driven tools, are designed as turrets with high-precision and very fast indexing." The chip-to-chip time is 0.3 seconds. The front working and rear end machining units have up to four stations each for stationary or individually live tools. A high level of complete machining is achieved by using a counter spindle with identical design in combination with the main spindle (bar diameter up to 13 mm, maximum number of revolutions 12,000 RPM). Up to four tools are used on the two spindles simultaneously.

The TNL12 is compact and can be integrated into existing machine groups. Its working area can be accessed from both sides. Toolholders that are preset outside of the machine allow for short set-up times. Patented tool mountings are engineered for precise positioning with repeating accuracy.

New TRAUB CNC Control TX8i-s

The TNL12 comes with the TRAUB TX8i-s control. "The TX8i-s is based on the CNC hardware from Mitsubishi while the user interface software is a TRAUB development," said the spokesperson.

"Customers need not rely on standardized software products, rather customer and application needs can be implemented and integrated optimally into the development." The control is compatible with all previous TRAUB controls so that existing programs can be used.

Features and benefits of the TRAUB controller include:

  • Reduced set-up time due to higher NC performance
  • Interactive programming, optimization and simulation in dialog or in NC mode
  • Error avoidance and set-up time reduction through object-oriented interactive guidance
  • Sensitive tool breakage and wear monitoring
  • Compatible with all previous TRAUB controls
  • High availability
  • Optimal support because the machine, control and drive are from a single source.
