How Waterjet Technology Improves Productivity at FABTECH

At FABTECH, taking place November 9-12 at McCormick Place in Chicago, OMAX Corporation will demonstrate its OMAX 80X and MAXIEM 1515 JetMachining Centers loaded with efficient direct drive pumps, advanced accessories and the latest Intelli-MAX Software Suite in booth S-2767. Attendees will also have the opportunity to speak with abrasive waterjet experts inside the booth to discuss the full scope of the company's table size offerings and how they advance metal fabrication.

OMAX 80X JetMachining Center

The 80X JetMachining Center processes large, complex components or multiple parts from various materials and thicknesses with speed and precision. "This premium performance comes as a direct result of the company's exclusive Intelli-MAX Software Suite and EnduroMAX pump design. The intuitive software optimizes the machine's tool path for consistent quality and repeatable results, while the efficient EnduroMAX pump provides faster cutting speeds per unit of input than intensifier designs," said a company spokesperson.

"At the show, OMAX will pair the 80X with the new 100 HP EnduroMAX Pump, which operates at 85 percent efficiency as opposed to the 60 to 70 percent range of intensifier pumps. This increased efficiency enables the EnduroMAX to deliver more horsepower to the cutting nozzle than intensifier designs at any pump power rating, regardless of pressure. This is important because the more horsepower at the nozzle, the stronger the abrasive stream and the faster the cutting speeds," said a company spokesperson.

With an A-Jet cutting head, Rotary Axis and Precision Optical Locator, the 80X serves as a complete solution for precision part production. The optional A-Jet multi-axis cutting head adds two motion axes to the 80X for complete 5-axis machining, which makes it easy to cut beveled edges, angled sides, 3D shapes and countersinks while compensating for taper. The Rotary Axis provides infinite rotation while cutting, and the Precision Optical Locator makes it easy to locate points, edges or holes on a pre-machined workpiece as it sits on the cutting table ready for secondary operations.

MAXIEM 1515 JetMachining Center

"The robust MAXIEM 1515 JetMachining Center integrates proven technologies in a cost-effective package to provide shops with an affordable, highly productive fabricating and metalcutting solution. In fact, as a next-generation MAXIEM machine, the 1515 has a level of performance that is higher than anything else in its class," said a company spokesperson.

The all-in-one Windows 8 controller on the 1515 comes pre-loaded with the latest Intelli-MAX Software Suite that makes it easy to generate complex geometries and produce quality parts from virtually any type of material or thickness. The software calculates the precision of the velocity of a tool path at over 1,000 points per inch, allowing for complete control over the motion of an abrasivejet and enabling rapid machining.

Through its advanced direct drive pump, available in 20, 30 and 40 HP options, the 1515 offers more cutting power per kilowatt. The MAXIEM pump's Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) regulates the electricity input to increase efficiency.

Intelli-MAX Software Suite

The Intelli-MAX Software Suite is intuitive motion control software that makes it easy for users to create precision parts faster by automating most programming, including tool path optimization on OMAX and MAXIEM JetMachining Centers. The software also automates most programming and tool set-up work.

"OMAX Corporation continuously updates its Intelli-MAX Software Suite to effectively support the diverse and changing needs of its customers," said a company spokesperson. "The latest version of the software features the most advanced cutting model that gives operators precise predictability as to cutting speeds, taper, jet lag and other abrasivejet factors of particular JetMachining Center tool paths."

Intelli-MAX is widely compatible with other software systems, allowing users to import from more than 90 different file formats, including vector graphics, 3D files, raster graphics, CAD files and more. To further extend its versatility, most third-party CAD/CAM and nesting software systems can output directly to the company's controller software. This allows users to achieve the same results while continuing to use their current programs.
