Multipurpose Machining Center

Selway Machine Tool Co will feature Italian machine tool manufacturer Breton at WESTEC booth 624. "Old world Italian craftsmanship and new world technology come together in Breton's product line-up of large work envelope, 4 to 8 axes and high performance multipurpose machining centers," said a Selway spokesperson.

"The addition of Breton now gives Selway the ability to provide a high performance, multipurpose, multi-axis machining center with work envelopes large enough to complete any complex job," said Bill Selway, President, Selway Machine Tool Co.

Breton's range of machining centers were specially conceived for working with aluminum, steel, titanium, special alloys and composite materials. Each machine was designed to satisfy all the requirements for use in aerospace, defense, aeronautics, automotive, energy and general manufacturing.

Breton technology includes: the Flymill 5-axis upper gantry machining center with direct-drive technology for medium and large aero structures; the Ultrix and the Maxima with 5-axis milling, designed to turn up to 3,500 mm and grind in one set-up (engineered especially for engine components manufacturing); and the Eagle and Raptor 5-axis gantry machining centers designed for the manufacture of carbon fibers structures and composites. Breton's 5- and 6-axis gantry machining center line-up offer a versatile range of capacity up to 472.4" in X, 196.8" in Y and 137.8" in Z with rapids up to 85 m/min and electro spindles up to 116 kW.

Selway will also team up with Raptor Workholding Products and Matsuura in booth 1747 to showcase the 5-axis Matsuura MX-520 loaded with a Raptor Nest multi-fixture. A live cutting demo programmed by Autodesk and Selway application engineers will deliver a finished Matsuura belt buckle every time the machine door opens.

"As the West Coast Matsuura distributor, Selway supplies and services the Matsuura machines used by Raptor to make their workholding products," said Zack Selway, Selway Machine Tool Co.

The Raptor workholding line-up will include stainless and aluminum dovetail fixtures, cutters and adapters. The RWP-003-4X multi-fixture will be mounted on the Matsuura MX-520 rotary table for the live cutting demo. This fixture is designed specifically for 5-axis machining applications and can hold four workpieces at the same time.

Matsuura's MX-520 features a 20k spindle, 60-tool chain magazine and a 300 mm rotary table with two flat tables. This 5-axis machine will showcase the advantages of Matsuura high-speed machining.
